High Light is a near perfect distillation of Colin Prior's passion for the wild places of Scotland, an inspired attempt to understand his place within the natural world around him. This compilation includes stunning new examples of his expansive panoramas, as well as detailed images exploring the relationships between the elements of the natural world.

For over 20 years since the publication of his revolutionary first book, Highland Wilderness, Colin has continued to push back the boundaries of landscape photography. By immersing himself in the landscape, often spending nights camped out on Scotland's remotest peaks, he is able to compose remarkable images which capture precisely the transient and ineffable combinations of light and colour which define the landscape. Above all else his aim is to capture the ephemeral, the relationships and juxtapositions in nature which are entirely temporal, never recurring in precisely the same way.

As the position of the sun in the sky is changing constantly throughout the year, Colin often returns year after year, awaiting the perfect moment to shoot a particular landscape. Most images take at least two attempts over two or three years to realise.

As dependence on computer technology increasingly shapes our lives, humankind has an ever-greater need to escape virtual reality and touch the natural world: to experience the space, silence and awe-inspiring beauty of the world's truly wild places. Colin's work makes abundantly clear that true wildernesses are not only vitally important reservoirs of biodiversity, but also indispensable sanctuaries for the human imagination.
