For a faster delivery, items can be sent by Air Mail, which normally gives a delivery time of 10-14 days, but this is subject to delays at Customs and local delivery services - we therefore ask you to allow up to 28 days for delivery.

The Maleny Bookshop is seeking to buy quality books, whether you have one volume or a library of thousands. We buy a wide variety of books including the most recent bestsellers, classic literature, and graphic novels; scholarly and academic books (art, philosophy, etc.); as well as fine bindings, signed books, and autographed material, and other rare and antiquarian books and manuscripts. We also buy sheet music in good condition.

For titles we can use, we pay in cash, or an in-store credit. You'll always get more if in-store credit is chosen.

We buy records, factory-sealed CDs, and Audiobooks (on CD). No DVD's, VHS, Bluray, or cassettes.

All books and items must be evaluated in-store to accurately assess their resale value. We are able to go through about 30-40 books while you wait.

All books must be in good condition. Paperbacks must be like-new in order for us to consider them. There can be no markings within any of the texts—no highlighting, underlining, or marginalia. We are unable to pay for any advanced reader’s copies/uncorrected proofs, ex-library books, or out-of-date material such as computer manuals, travel guides, test prep, and education books. We generally do not deal with textbooks, however, we will consider some fashion and art-related textbooks. We buy very selectively in children's and young adult books. We are mainly interested in classic titles.

Before bringing in a larger quantity of books, we encourage you to contact us by phone at (07) 5494 3666 or at hello@malenybookshop.com.au to discuss the best way to proceed. Please, be prepared to answer questions similar to the following:

How many books do you have for sale? (You can count a couple shelves, get an average, and multiply by the number of shelves to get an estimate.)
What is the condition of the books?
What subject matters are you selling? (Not individual titles)
Have you already sold or disposed of any of the collection?
Do you have a way of getting your books to the store?
If contacting us by email, please include a phone number where you can be reached.
Large drop-offs are subject to the approval of a buyer.

When sending an email, please consider including photos of the bookshelves in which the spines are legible (no need to photograph each book individually). Photos are much more helpful than lists and faster to create!

For substantial and more valuable libraries, we may be able to send our truck to pack and pick up your books.

Books that are dropped off or picked up will be evaluated and we will pay you fair market value for those we can use; however, anything we cannot pay for we cannot return to you. If you would like the option to take back any books, please bring in the recommended smaller amount of 30-40 books.

Are you interested in selling your rare, collectible, or antiquarian books? We're happy to take a look at items we believe we can sell. People often ask, "What makes a book rare?" To put it simply, it's a combination of scarcity plus desirability that makes something valuable.

Collectors are generally looking for items in a condition close to how they were originally published. For this reason, the condition is the first factor in determining the value of any book. It's always best for us to see your books in person in our store, or if locally, we can come to you. If you're unable to easily bring them in you can send us an email with pictures with the following: title, author, publisher, and edition, if you know it. We consider a first edition a first printing only. Also, let us know if there's anything significant about your copy (signed, numbered, etc). When attaching pictures please be sure to show the title and/or copyright page and any condition issues (bumping, cracking, soiling, etc). From there we can let you know our interest and the best way to proceed.

We are unable to offer estimates over the phone.

Please note: We do not offer appraisals (for insurance purposes or otherwise) but you may find a capable dealer through the ABAA website.

All books and items must be evaluated in-store to accurately assess their resale value. We are unable to make any offers or assessments without seeing the books in person.

A buyer will go through your books and let you know one amount we are able to pay for everything. You will have the option to take back or leave behind everything we can’t pay you for. (However, we are not a charity and cannot provide any sort of tax receipt; nor are we able to take in large quantities of books which do not have resale value for us.)

The buyer will pay you in cash, cheque, or enter your store credit into our system under your name.
